Our Campaigns
These are our active efforts to make La Jolla safer and more walkable. Dive into the details below and take action.

Repave the Bike Path
Cracked, uneven pavement creates hazards for people walking, rolling, and riding. Let’s restore a safe, continuous surface.
The Problem
- Large longitudinal cracks and root heaves increase trip-and-fall risk.
- Ponding after rain forces people into the roadway.
- Segments near driveways have abrupt grade changes (ADA noncompliant).
Our Proposal
- Mill and repave the full corridor; spot-repair base failures before overlay.
- Add edge drainage and crown correction to eliminate ponding.
- Grind transitions at driveways; ensure cross-slope ≤ 2% where feasible.

Safe Routes to School – Bird Rock Elementary
Missing and narrow sidewalks force kids into the street. We need continuous, ADA-compliant routes within a 1/2-mile radius of school gates.
The Problem
- Gaps and obstructions on east–west connectors leading to campus.
- High-speed turning movements at key intersections during drop-off.
- Insufficient daylighting (visibility) near crosswalks due to parking at corners.
Our Proposal
- Fill sidewalk gaps with 5–6 ft walks and add curb ramps.
- Install high-visibility crosswalks and daylighting (red curbs) at approaches.
- Pilot school-street treatments or timed turn-calming during arrival/dismissal.
Status:Route audit scheduled; building coalition with PTA and nearby businesses.

Pedestrianize Girard Street
Transform Girard into a people-first promenade that supports safer walking and thriving local business.
The Problem
- High vehicle volumes reduce comfort for shoppers and diners.
- Frequent mid-block crossings without refuge islands.
- Limited space for outdoor seating, trees, and events.
Our Proposal
- Pilot weekend/seasonal car-free blocks with emergency access maintained.
- Create modular curb extensions and mid-block refuges using quick-build materials.
- Plan a permanent streetscape with shade trees, lighting, and seating.
Status:Concept sketches underway; outreach to merchants launching this month.
